Hello, my friends! In this week’s episode, I wanted to talk a little bit about the power of your “why”. This could have to do with anything – why you started your business, why you started a family, why you decided to work on your physical or mental health, etc. I just wanted to share why it’s so important to me personally and how I have used that to help me get to where I am today and to even better places in my future.
I want to begin with the reason I got into the Concierge business in the first place. It all comes down to me loving to help and work with people. It started with dinner reservations, and then with vacation planning, and soon enough I fell in love with getting to know strangers so that I could tailor a trip specifically to them that would end up being an everlasting memory or tradition. I love solving problems for others, giving them a laundry list of resolutions that might help get them to where they want to be. I enjoy being that person on the outside looking in and putting myself in the shoes of people in different roles and situations.
I think I lost sight of this about a year ago, I was really confused and stuck. Looking back, I had my linen company, I wasn’t writing or blogging as much, I still had clients and honestly, nothing was much different but in my head, I definitely felt stuck. I think I forgot about why I started doing what I do and just kept asking myself “where am I supposed to go from here?” I saw other people that are friends and acquaintances building new businesses and just being like “okay they’re onto something, that’s great, but what about me what am I doing nothing is changing…”.
Had I just paused for a second and asked myself WHY I started in the first place, it would’ve brought me to where I needed to be. I started because I wanted to help others succeed and learn and make things EASIER for them. Whether it was in their personal lives, business, work, family, relationships, etc. That’s literally all I wanted to do, it was all that made me feel full and purposeful.
This year, I started to become more aware of my thoughts, words, and actions. I am so proud of what that consciousness has done for me as a person. I can see people doing similar things as I do and instead of being like “ok great another person in the mix”, I get excited to help them get ahead and skip the hard parts instead of watching from the sidelines and judging what they’re “doing wrong” or could be doing differently. The best part, I don’t need to charge money for that. I don’t need to charge people their hard-earned income to be kind and supportive towards their new goals or ambitions. Let me tell you, it feels SO good. So good to not have to have a “well, what’s in it for me?” mindset. So good that I didn’t get trapped there.
Now I get to make all these amazing connections with people who are striving to be the best version of themselves not only for them, but for the people around them. I don’t worry about competition because I just don’t look at it like that anymore and when you realize that you don’t, you don’t even have those thoughts in the back of your mind. They don’t come and go – they are simply just not there. It gives you that much more freedom to explore and grow at your own pace instead of trying to keep up or get ahead.
Sometimes I just get excited because it’s like “omg this feels great, the power of community is a thing and I feel like the world is changing around me” and then I realize that it is. Just because our community is small, doesn’t mean that it doesn’t make a difference in the big picture. There are people from all over the world that go in and out of our lives every single day. Lead by example and you will affect more people than you could ever imagine and go further than you had probably ever thought you could. Open your mind to positivity and good energy, don’t let the bad stuff in or consume you, and well….you’ll see 😉
I know this episode was short and sweet but I hope it helps to put some things into perspective for you. Maybe you need a reset, maybe you need to reprioritize some things, but whatever it is – I am here for you and ready to help every step of the way. I will talk to you guys again soon!
Before I close out this episode, I wanted to take a second to give a little shout-out to my email platform, Flodesk. I have been using Flodesk for over a year now to grow and nurture my email list. I recently just also switched my family’s businesses over to it as well because it is so easy to use, has tons of gorgeous pre-loaded templates, and super affordable. You can get 50% off your Flodesk subscription for liffeeeee by going to flodesk.com/c/caskia. It is NEVER too late to start an email list, and I will probably have to do an episode on this soon because I could go on for 10 minutes about why it’s so important!
