Over the past two months, I have watched so many businesses shift their strategies to make this pandemic work for them. I think this is such a huge lesson, so I wanted to talk about it today. This pandemic has affected people in so many different ways. It has caused some businesses to thrive, and others to shut down. The problem is, people are afraid to sell because they fear no one has any money to spend, or why would people spend their money if there’s no work?
Not true. Ask yourself – have you spent anything in the last month that was not a necessity? A “treat-yo-self” item, perhaps? Most likely. That’s because not everyone is suffering right now, and I think it’s important to understand that. The economy needs us to sell right now. It’s the only way to keep small businesses alive.
If your business has been changed by this virus, I have one word for you – pivot. You need to pivot your business. You need to adapt to the change. If you’re in retail and had to close your physical location, go into your store and start posting your products online. Ecommerce websites are not expensive, and it’s worth a small investment (the lowest I’ve seen is $10 a month). If you arent tech-savvy and don’t know anyone who can help you just start taking pictures, creating stories or going live on Instagram & Facebook and offer free shipping with customer orders as a thank you. If you have an online business already – keep selling. Don’t offer your products at 80% off. Don’t give too much away for free. If people want and need it, they’ll buy it. This will keep the economy going.
Obviously, it’s awesome that we are able to make people feel more inclined to purchase from us by using discounts and giving away free items, but we all need to keep on selling. If you have been putting off launching or starting a business and think that now is the worst time to do so, that’s not true. Do it. Start it today. People are watching more than ever right now.
